Healthy Holiday Tips

  • Eat a snack before you go to social events and meals to avoid being too hungry.
  • Make a couple of low-fat appetizers (hummus, mushroom/artichoke dip) to be sure you have healthy choices to snack on.
  • Try to socialize a little before heading right to the food tables.
  • Take smaller servings of meat, salty foods like gravy, fried foods, and foods with butter or cream sauces.
  • Take just one trip to the buffet or pass on seconds at the dinner table.
  • Choose healthy options, like skinless white meat turkey or chicken, vegetables without added sauces, and fresh fruits.
  • If you must indulge in spirits, try a glass of wine (be sure to sip slowly) or a wine spritzer to keep calories down. Pass on rich beverages like egg nog, which can be close to 500 calories per drink!
